Advent Tree Project

“I was naked and you gave me clothing” – Matthew 25:36

Each December during the preparatory season of Advent, the community of St David’s decorates an Advent Tree. This is your regular run-of-the-mill Christmas Tree, but since we do not believe in decorating the Christmas Tree until the “Christ Mass” we adorn our tree for the four week leading up to Christmas Eve with various items for those in need during the winter months, especially socks, scarves, hats, and mittens. In 20017, we far exceeded our expectations and collected 162 pairs of socks, 34 hats, 36 pairs of mittens and 6 scarves, which were later distributed to various local schools, shelters, and day centers.

During the winter of 2018, new needs were brought to our attention through our work with the Elkhart City Homeless Coalition. We now have added blankets and hand and feet warmers to our collections. Collected Items are given to the ECHC and St Margaret’s House for distribution.

If you would like to make a donation, items may be scheduled for drop-off the four weeks before Christmas by contacting the parish office. You are also welcome to make a financial contribution to St. David’s Episcopal Church with Advent Tree in the memo line. All funds raised for the project will be spent on the items most needed by the various organizations this ministry supports.
